COMBUSTION

Combustion is a chemical reaction that produces heat and light. The most common form of combustion is fire. Most forms of combustion happen when the gas oxygen joins with another substance. For example, when wood burns, oxygen in the air joins with carbon in wood.

Some problems that combustion can cause are: global warming, respiratory illnesses and acid rain.

Oxidation is a chemical reaction in which an atom loses one or more electrons to oxygen atoms. Oxidation causes changes to the properties and appearance of substances. There are two types of oxidation:
